About The Position

INFICON is seeking an experienced people leader to manage its Electrical Engineering team in Syracuse, NY. The team designs precision electronics for sensor and instrumentation products, covering high-precision analog circuits, digital systems, RF electronics, power supplies, PCB layout, component selection, and prototype testing. Its work ranges from breadboard-level minimum viable products tested with customers to designs for series production, including circuits that measure currents in the nanoampere range and capacitances in the femtofarad range. The manager’s primary focus is developing an exceptional engineering team and providing senior technical leadership. The role also supports the team’s adoption of AI tools in electronics workflows, lean product discovery with customers, and component lifecycle and supply-chain strategy. The manager will guide engineers’ professional or leadership development, foster psychological safety and experimentation, provide technical design guidance, and help deliver products from concept through production. The work involves collaboration across hardware, software, mechanical, and product functions, as well as with specialists in fields such as physics, chemistry, and materials science.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in electronics engineering.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership or senior technical lead role.
  • Hands-on experience in analog and digital circuit design, RF design, and/or high-precision measurement.
  • Experience taking products from concept through production and maintaining the product lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or similar.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with precision analog electronics design.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for working with physicists, chemists, materials scientists, software engineers, and mechanical engineers to bring product concepts to life.
  • A genuine passion for developing people as professionals and future leaders, not only technically.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and coach electrical engineers working across analog, digital, power, and RF design.
  • Create individual development plans and support team members pursuing professional engineering or leadership career tracks.
  • Foster psychological safety, a growth mindset, and a culture that celebrates experimentation, including unsuccessful experiments.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide meaningful feedback, and champion employees’ professional development across the organization.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance in high-precision analog design, digital electronics, RF systems, signal processing, precision power supplies, embedded systems, PCB layout, and compliance.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, test plans, and documentation.
  • Promote lean, hypothesis-driven product discovery by building breadboard MVPs, testing them with customers, validating assumptions, and iterating.
  • Drive Agile practices such as Scrum or Kanban and communicate across hardware, software, mechanical, and product functions.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, new component technologies, and design methodologies, and help the team evaluate their potential impact.
  • Help shape adoption of AI tools in electronics workflows, lead lean product discovery with customers, and support component lifecycle and supply-chain strategy.
  • Help develop precision electronics products from concept through production and maintain their product lifecycle.
