About The Position

Formlabs is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern for the Winter/Spring 2027 term. This internship offers the opportunity to work on the complex interplay of software, hardware, and electronics that powers 3D printing technology. Interns will gain hands-on experience in designing and building circuit boards, working with firmware, and solving problems on real products. The role is ideal for individuals passionate about digital, analog, or electromechanical devices, who are eager to contribute to the future of fabrication.

Requirements

  • Comfortable moving between analog and digital systems
  • Ready to dive into complex electromechanical subsystems
  • Experienced with soldering and other aspects of prototyping your own designs
  • Comfortable doing independent research and development and making design decisions
  • Worked on projects with microcontrollers, sensors, feedback, or motor control
  • Designed, assembled, and debugged PCBs
  • Comfortable programming microcontrollers in C and developing test scripts in Python
  • Excited about designing products that work well and delight customers
  • A portfolio of your previous engineering work/projects is required. Your application will not be considered without a portfolio.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on electro-mechanical products

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and validate electronics and electromechanical subsystems
  • Work closely with other engineers to develop system requirements and make design decisions
