About The Position

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Electrical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The internship is open to undergraduate and graduate-level candidates and offers the opportunity to learn from and contribute alongside an experienced team. This is a hybrid position requiring at least three days per week in the office. Preference will be given to candidates able to participate for at least three months.

The intern will support and receive mentorship in building and facility electrical design, including field surveys, calculations, computer-aided design, equipment selection, coordination with trades, and maintaining client standards and relationships. Projects include public transit terminals and transportation maintenance facilities, municipal buildings such as public works facilities, and light commercial and retail projects. Under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, the intern will help develop schematic designs into construction documents and participate in project phases from planning through construction close-out.

The position is not eligible for sponsorship. Compensation is listed at $41,107.00–$46,713.00. Final compensation may vary based on factors including geography, education, experience, and certifications.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering at an ABET-accredited university or an NCEES equivalent.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the architecture, engineering, or construction management industry.
• Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation CAD software.
• Ability to learn and use commercial AC power-system analysis software for load-flow simulation, short-circuit calculations, relay settings, coordination, and ground-grid design.
• Ability to participate in the internship for at least three months is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support and receive mentorship in all aspects of building and facility electrical design.
• Conduct field surveys and perform calculations and computer-aided design (CAD) tasks.
• Prepare AC and DC power-system single-line diagrams, metering and relaying schematics, AC and DC control schematics, wiring drawings, substation equipment layout drawings, conduit routing drawings, cable schedules, and equipment mounting and installation drawings.
• Design grounding grids, lightning protection, lighting, and related power distribution systems.
• Assist in preparing technical and cost proposals and change orders for existing projects.
• Interface with railway clients, utility company representatives, and other STV departments.
• Develop schematic designs into construction documents under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.
• Provide designs and calculations for power, lighting, and fire alarm systems.
• Participate in project phases from planning through construction close-out.
• Coordinate utility service layouts, power generation and storage, and power system distributions.
• Use AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and Microsoft Word to assemble contract documents.
• Construct electrical system models in SKM, ETAP, and EasyPower and perform electrical calculations.
• Develop power, lighting, and fire alarm system designs using Revit and/or AutoCAD.
• Perform electrical calculations using specialized engineering software.
• Perform other tasks as assigned to support project goals and team objectives.
