About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Orange, CA office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Electrical team. This role involves leading the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for various projects, including renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, transportation, and industrial applications. The engineer will be responsible for developing design documents, reports, specifications, and cost estimates, while also collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and supporting the growth of electrical engineering services. A key aspect of the role includes mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand the electrical engineering practice.

Requirements

• 4+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards
• Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
• Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff

Nice To Haves

• Experience in utility-scale PV, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs
• Experience in engineering project management
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent
• Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent
• Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent
• Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, transportation, and industrial projects
• Responsible for the development of design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, equipment schematics and block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams
• Daily interaction and collaboration on multi-disciplinary teams, with interaction across Kimley-Horn offices
• Prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals, supporting the growth of electrical engineering service areas in the local market and across the country
• Assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our electrical engineering practice
