About The Position

Sierra Lobo is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Maintenance Operations team at NASA's Langley Research Center, supporting the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE). This role focuses on ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical systems across the center, with a strong emphasis on improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and providing technical guidance to maintenance teams. The position reports directly to the Maintenance and Reliability Engineer Manager, and all work must be performed with a high level of quality, professionalism, and adherence to safety policies.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or in appropriate discipline and two (2) to five (5) years related engineering experience, OR MS degree and one (1) to three (3) years of related engineering experience, OR Ph.D. and zero (0) to one (1) year of experience from an accredited engineering school.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance and reliability requirements for mechanical systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain a NASA background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a utility, or research environment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and asset management tools (specifically IBM Maximo).
  • Reliability Engineers are encouraged to get CMRP certified (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional).

Responsibilities

  • Support maintenance and operations teams with troubleshooting and resolution of electrical, power distribution, control, and instrumentation system issues in both normal and emergent conditions.
  • Analyze equipment failures and recurring issues, lead root cause analyses, and develop corrective and preventive actions to prevent repeat failures.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for electrical assets, including motors, drives, switchgear, controls, and related systems.
  • Review, create, and update electrical job plans, maintenance procedures, and preventive maintenance tasks to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Provide electrical engineering support for equipment repairs, system upgrades, and capital improvement projects from design through execution.
  • Identify equipment reliability risks and obsolescence concerns, and recommend design changes, process improvements, or replacement strategies.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and turnover of new or modified electrical systems, ensuring systems meet design intent and operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and site safety requirements, including support of audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate closely with reliability, mechanical, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and support reliability-centered maintenance efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to maintenance personnel as needed.
