Electrical Engineer, Lifecycle (Prism)

Northwood Space•Los Angeles, CA
•$100,000 - $130,000

About The Position

As a Lifecycle Electrical Engineer, you will operate and improve Northwood’s Prism ground segment network. You will own designs for deployed modules and circuitry spanning RF, power, and high-speed digital electronics; investigate fielded systems; and develop component and subsystem updates to deployed designs. The role involves design, analysis, testing, manufacturing collaboration, and deployment of reliable electronic systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 2–4+ years of professional experience in electrical design.
  • Experience with end-to-end board design, from architecture and component selection through schematic capture, PCB layout, bring-up, debugging, and production.
  • Hands-on experience debugging complex hardware systems using advanced lab instrumentation and driving root-cause analysis across board and system levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience driving root-cause and corrective-action campaigns using thorough, systemic processes such as fishbone analysis and 5 Whys.
  • Hands-on project team experience, such as Formula SAE, rocketry, or CubeSat.
  • Deep understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, PCB stack-up definition, and high-performance board layout practices.
  • RF design or test experience with LNAs, power amplifiers, filters, or up/down converters, including gain, noise figure, compression, and spurious performance.
  • High-speed digital design experience with FPGAs, SerDes, data converters, or 10/100G Ethernet, including signal and power integrity analysis.
  • Power electronics design experience, such as DC-DC converters, sequencing, and protection circuits.
  • Experience troubleshooting conducted or radiated EMI/EMC.
  • Experience with mixed-signal electronics design and complex multilayer PCBs, including stack-up definition and material selection.

Responsibilities

  • Own electronics systems deployed in Prism systems from cradle to grave, spanning RF, power, and high-speed digital electronics.
  • Observe performance and degradation of electronics deployed on Prism systems.
  • Drive root-cause investigations and corrective actions on in-factory and deployed ground stations.
  • Provide design and analysis inputs to support reliable design, test, and qualification campaigns.
  • Drive design improvements to modules through design, schematic capture, layout, manufacture, and deployment.
  • Test prototypes and assess performance in the lab and in the field.
  • Work with production teams to develop testable and manufacturable products for in-house integration.
