About The Position

This role is responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs for small and large electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments, utilizing theoretical knowledge and practical design methods under general supervision. The engineer will be involved in various stages of projects, from preliminary designs and material take-offs to detailed calculations, checking work of others, and providing on-site assistance during startup. The position requires a strong understanding of industry standards, codes, and the ability to collaborate with other disciplines and guide less experienced personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.
  • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.
  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.
  • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.
  • Ability to determine motor control center loading.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.
  • Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.
  • Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and actuated valves.
  • Familiarity with standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA).
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing department design and drafting standards.
  • Understanding project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.
  • Providing on-site assistance during startup.
  • Producing estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Producing detailed design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
  • Producing designs with efficient use of construction materials, emphasizing ease of construction and client satisfaction.
  • Checking calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, and good engineering practice.
  • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth information flow.
  • Advising senior engineers concerning design or scope changes.
  • Assisting other engineers in developing scopes, drawings, and specifications for procurement inquiries.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
  • Developing construction specifications.
  • Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals.
  • Performing fieldwork for data gathering, checking tie-ins, and providing construction support.
  • Providing technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Applying advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.
  • Producing installation details, single lines, layouts, elementaries, diagrams, schedules, and plans.
  • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies.
  • Developing small work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
