About The Position

Sayres, a renowned leader in defense support services to the DOD, is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with a current SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Washington, DC. This position may offer remote and/or hybrid work arrangements based on customer discretion. As an Electrical Engineer you will, support the PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management team, providing SME expertise for technical and engineering efforts on the assigned Hull (e.g T-AGOS, T-AO, T-ATS, NGLS, T-ARC, Service Craft). Your responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to, the following: Conduct analysis and contribute to concept and feasibility studies related to electrical systems for ships, boats, and craft. Collaborate in contract design activities, detail design, and construction activities, ensuring efficient and effective electrical system integration. Participate in in-service ship design and engineering activities, providing expertise in electrical systems for maintenance and upgrades. Provide support for shipboard electrical system installations, ensuring compliance with safety standards and performance requirements. Engage in special studies that address specific electrical system challenges and opportunities in shipbuilding. Design and analyze power distribution systems for ships, considering safety, redundancy, and operational efficiency. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other ship systems. Ensure adherence to electrical safety regulations and standards throughout the shipbuilding process. Support shipboard testing of electrical systems, verifying performance and functionality. Implement strategies to optimize electrical system performance, energy efficiency, and reliability. Leadership and Mentorship: Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior electrical engineers in the shipbuilding team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and no less than seven (7) years of design experience in development of work packages, in-service modifications, detail design drawings and analysis, implementation of ABS and military specifications and requirements, 3D modeling, and/or ship system integration. Experience shall be specific to ship design and construction.
  • Familiar with integrated plant design, including medium voltage AC, electrical propulsion, and pulsed loads, and in accordance with ABS and IEEE 45 standards.
  • Familiar with the detailed development of one-line diagrams, protection feature analyses, analyses for Arc Flash, subtransients, and system harmonics, as well as switchboard and breaker design, power management, and safety and control features.
  • Experience in conduct and development of a failure mode effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Familiarity with energy storage systems and Lithium battery powered systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Active SECRET verifiable in DISS or the ability to obtain an interim SECRET clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in engineering
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Capable of developing and designing electrical system products with skill in interfacing design towards producibility.
  • Knowledge of Contract Documentation, experience reading contract data, and familiarity with NAVSEA ship specification requirements and processes.
  • Familiarity with requirements for the ABS DPS and R2 notations.
