GE Vernova
•$80,000 - $120,000•Remote

About The Position

The Electrical Engineer will support project execution for EHV/HV substations by performing power system studies and calculations using power system software. The role focuses on ensuring system reliability, efficiency, and compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations, while collaborating across functions and supporting project documentation and continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer will carry out in-depth studies and calculations and support Senior Power System Engineers. The work includes studies for systems that combine AC power sources such as conventional generation, AC-BESS, turbines, and renewables. The position requires experience with frequency- and time-domain simulation tools, such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory, as well as strong technical communication skills. This is a remote position. Travel of up to 10%, including internationally, is required. For Canadian-based candidates, the stated pay range is CAD $75,900–$126,500. For U.S.-based candidates, the stated pay range is $80,000–$120,000, with geographic differentials in certain areas. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, including power systems and power electronics subjects.
  • Proven professional experience and technical expertise in power system engineering; experience in AC substations and power plant system studies is preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in network or transient studies for conventional electric-energy generation, FACTS, renewable energy, or inverter-based power systems in offshore wind, industrial, utility substation, or grid-interconnection settings.
  • Expertise in frequency- and time-domain simulation tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Excellent technical communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%, including internationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional engineering license and willingness to review and seal own work and the work of others under supervision.
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, including power systems and power electronics subjects, with relevant professional experience and technical expertise.
  • Knowledge of NERC and FERC compliance requirements and/or ISO interconnection or transmission planning guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of North American medium- and high-voltage substation standards and guidelines, including IEEE and ANSI standards and NEC and NESC codes; local grid codes; and related equipment safety, application, sizing, and integration.
  • Ability to engineer design packages when clear customer specifications are not provided.
  • Working knowledge of design calculations for primary and secondary equipment, including battery sizing and DC system component selection; power transformer and circuit breaker selection; circuit protection; control and power cable selection and rating; bus, fittings, insulator, and arrester selection; ground grid design; and lightning protection.
