CoOp - Electrical Engineer (Internship)

ASML•Wilton, CT
•Onsite

About The Position

ASML’s DUV Reticle Stage IBS MDU team supports engineering activities for the reticle stage, a precision mechatronic subsystem in DUV lithography systems. The reticle stage depends on reliable electrical connections that perform consistently in a demanding precision-equipment environment. The co-op student will help investigate and qualify alternatives to existing LEMO electrical connectors, working with experienced ASML engineers on a hardware engineering project involving electrical design, component selection, testing, and qualification. The primary assignment is to identify, evaluate, and help qualify alternative connector solutions that meet the relevant performance requirements of the existing solution. Alternatives may include commercially available technologies or new or modified concepts. The student will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and mechatronics engineers to understand the application, establish critical requirements, investigate options, and validate promising solutions through analysis and testing. The work will progress from requirements and concept investigation through hands-on testing and technical recommendations, with findings documented for continued use by the engineering team. The position is on-site in Wilton, Connecticut, and requires on-site presence for work-related events, training, and meetings. The student must be available for a 6- to 9-month assignment; the education section describes a 6-month co-op assignment.

Requirements

  • Be a college junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
  • Be available for a 6-month co-op assignment; the role also states availability for 6 to 9 months.
  • Have a strong foundation in electrical engineering fundamentals, including circuits, signals, and electrical measurements.
  • Have experience with common electrical laboratory equipment, such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes, through coursework, laboratory projects, research, or prior internships or co-ops.
  • Be able to read and interpret electrical schematics, component specifications, and supplier datasheets.
  • Be able to develop a structured test approach, collect measurement data, and draw engineering conclusions from results.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and willingness to investigate unfamiliar technical problems and gather information from engineers and subject-matter experts.
  • Be able to break down open-ended engineering problems into requirements, candidate solutions, experiments, and conclusions.
  • Have a hands-on mindset and enthusiasm for building test setups and working with physical hardware.
  • Have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Be able to work independently while seeking input and collaborating across engineering disciplines.
  • Have clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical findings and present recommendations.
  • Be legally authorized to access controlled technology before beginning work, if the position requires such access.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering analysis tools.
  • Previous experience with connector design, signal integrity, reliability testing, or electromechanical hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate existing LEMO connector applications and understand their electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements.
  • Work with ASML engineers and subject-matter experts to identify and document critical connector requirements and constraints.
  • Research commercially available connector technologies and potential suppliers for viable alternatives.
  • Support development and evaluation of new or modified connector concepts when off-the-shelf solutions are insufficient.
  • Develop a structured method to compare candidate solutions against the existing connector and application requirements.
  • Plan and execute engineering tests to characterize promising connector alternatives.
  • Analyze test results and identify performance gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to review findings and assess whether candidate solutions are suitable for further qualification.
  • Document requirements, test methods, results, and engineering conclusions so the work can be continued and reused by the engineering team.
