Electrical Engineer III

NOV•Provo, UT

About The Position

The Electrical Engineer III designs, develops, tests, and supports electrical systems from concept through release and production. The role evaluates customer tools and electrical practices at both detailed technical and system-design levels, including grounding and signal integrity. It supports design reviews, risk assessments, project planning, customer technical reviews, production validation, and customer demonstrations, while communicating project status, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations. The engineer also creates and maintains electrical engineering documentation, develops verification and validation plans and test equipment, troubleshoots and supports cable wiring and PCBA test, repair, and rework, and helps ensure designs meet applicable safety, EMC/EMI, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 5–8+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, or equivalent qualifications demonstrating comparable technical depth, practical experience, and engineering capability.
  • Experience with electrical design tools such as OrCAD, Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, KiCad, or similar.
  • Experience with signal integrity, grounding, shielding, noise mitigation, and system-level evaluation of design and test tools and practices.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital fundamentals, power distribution, grounding, protection, sensors and actuators, and transmission-line characteristics.
  • Experience creating schematics, wiring diagrams, cable and harness documentation, electrical documentation packages, and controlled engineering changes.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with standard lab instrumentation and practical test setups.
  • Ability to design or support the manufacture of electrical test fixtures, test systems, or production and lab test equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to support customer-facing technical discussions and collaborate across functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with schematic capture, PCBA design, layout review, and component selection.
  • Experience with cable and harness design, connector selection, environmental sealing, EMC/EMI compliance, UL/IEC, NFPA 70/79, CE marking, or similar standards.
  • Experience with intrinsic safety methods and IECEx/ATEX certification.
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts, FMEA, fault-tree methods, PLM/ERP systems such as Windchill, and structured ECR/ECO change control.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer tools from an electrical perspective, including grounding approaches, signal-integrity methods, and related practices at detailed technical and system-design levels.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, project planning, and customer-facing technical reviews; communicate status, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
  • Design, build, troubleshoot, and support test equipment, fixtures, prototypes, lab and field testing, production validation, and customer demonstrations using appropriate diagnostic tools.
  • Design and develop electrical systems, schematics, wiring diagrams, interface and control definitions, and component selections from concept through release and production support.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, cable and harness drawings, wire diagrams, test procedures, component libraries, and ECR/ECO packages.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation plans, DVP&R documentation, test fixtures, and custom test equipment; analyze results and document conclusions.
  • Support cable wiring and PCBA testing, repair, and rework, documenting work as needed.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable safety, EMC/EMI, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
