About The Position

Under minimal supervision, the Electrical Engineer III leads the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for medium- to large-scale industrial automation and material handling projects. This role oversees electrical design execution, technical reviews, safety compliance, and field implementation. The Electrical Engineer III provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, contributes to engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives, and serves as the technical lead for multiple concurrent projects. This position ensures electrical designs meet performance, quality, budget, and schedule requirements while supporting successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Five to seven years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, preferably involving automation or material handling systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent electrical design and documentation software.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial power distribution, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLC interface wiring, and electrical safety systems.
  • Experience coordinating or overseeing subcontracted control panel fabrication and field installation activities.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design standards, technical documentation, and system integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead project-level technical activities, resolve complex engineering challenges, and support junior engineers.
  • Strong planning, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed for project commissioning, onsite technical support, installation coordination, and field leadership.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical specifications, professional journals, blueprints, and other technical documents.
  • Ability to prepare clear reports, engineering documentation, and written communications.
  • Must communicate effectively with vendors, customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts, including probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry, to practical engineering situations.
  • Ability to perform calculations involving fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to support design, analysis, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and logical reasoning when following instructions provided in written, verbal, or diagrammatic form.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve technical issues, evaluate alternatives, and address problems involving multiple variables in both standardized and project-specific situations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop scalable electrical system designs aligned with project scope, budget, performance requirements, and engineering standards.
  • Standardize electrical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and component libraries across project types.
  • Support initiatives that improve design quality, consistency, and overall project efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline design processes and reduce engineering cycle time.
  • Lead the development of electrical systems, including power distribution, control panel design, safety circuits, and programmable logic controller (PLC) integration.
  • Conduct technical and peer design reviews, identify potential risks, and ensure compliance with applicable UL, NEC, IEC, and NFPA standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical issues onsite and remotely, providing technical direction to installation partners and subcontractors.
  • Oversee electrical installation activities, support commissioning, and resolve field-related design challenges.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain redline drawings, as-built documentation, and final engineering drawing packages.
  • Provide technical guidance and structured mentorship to Electrical Engineers I and II.
  • Lead knowledge-sharing sessions and workshops covering electrical design practices, technical standards, and engineering methodologies.
  • Guide junior engineers on project execution, documentation requirements, problem-solving, and escalation procedures.
  • Promote consistent application of engineering standards and best practices across the team.
  • Collaborate with Controls Engineers to ensure effective electrical, mechanical, and controls integration.
  • Partner with Project Managers to support resource planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Coordinate with vendors, fabrication partners, installation teams, and internal departments on design handoffs, technical changes, and project requirements.
  • Facilitate communication and resolution of technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Evaluate emerging electrical technologies and recommend opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Lead prototype development and technical trials involving new components, tools, and design methodologies.
  • Contribute to improvements in design automation, system optimization, and engineering tools.
  • Recommend process improvements that strengthen engineering capabilities and support future project needs.
