Electrical Engineer III

BLUE ORIGIN•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

The Electrical Engineer III is part of Blue Origin’s Engines business unit, which designs, develops, manufactures, and tests engines and propulsion systems. As a member of a small, high-impact team, this engineer provides end-to-end electrical engineering solutions for the integration, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of electrical machines and associated power systems. Working with minimal direction, the role develops approaches to complex problems, collaborates with technical and operational stakeholders, and contributes engineering judgment across supporting disciplines. The position covers medium-voltage power systems, protection, excitation and voltage regulation, instrumentation, controls, and the integration challenges between these areas. It includes field and test-floor troubleshooting, equipment commissioning, maintenance support, supplier technical oversight, and the documentation of engineering work. The role may require travel 30% of the time, including field support at test and installation sites. Relocation is available.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience commissioning and troubleshooting electrical machinery and power systems.
  • Experience with electrical testing and diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and de-energization procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience working in dynamic, high-energy operational environments.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency using AI tools in an engineering workflow.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing for hazardous (classified) areas, such as Class I, Division 2.
  • Experience with industrial power system environments.
  • Hands-on experience supporting systems engineering, configuration management, or quality processes.
  • Experience authoring commissioning procedures and work instructions, and developing processes.
  • Working knowledge of basic networking systems and industrial communication protocols, such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, such as NEC, NFPA 70E/arc flash, and IEEE and NEMA machine and protection standards.

Responsibilities
