About The Position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer II to join its Defense Technologies section within Applied Research & Technologies. The role centers on hands-on design, prototyping, integration, and characterization of advanced electronic systems that support next-generation defense and mission systems technologies. It is suited to an engineer who enjoys working in a lab-centric, experimental environment and resolving complex hardware challenges through design and empirical testing. The engineer will support analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics development; create prototypes and early-stage demonstrators; characterize and validate electronic subsystems; and assist with system integration. The position also contributes to requirements definition, design reviews, risk and issue tracking, technical documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and government customers. The role is onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and requires U.S. citizenship and an active, existing DoD Secret clearance after day one.

Requirements

  • A STEM degree and at least 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Familiarity with common EDA tools such as Altium, OrCAD, KiCad, or Mentor.
  • An active and existing security clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic circuit design, prototyping, and laboratory test and measurement.
  • Experience with analog front-end design, power electronics, or mixed-signal hardware.
  • Strong proficiency with instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, or RF test equipment.
  • Exposure to embedded systems, microcontrollers, FPGAs, or firmware development workflows.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics for advanced defense technology applications.
  • Develop prototypes and early-stage demonstrators, including schematic capture, PCB design support, component selection, and breadboard or test-module build-up.
  • Perform laboratory characterization, measurement, and validation of electronic subsystems using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, logic analyzers, and other instrumentation.
  • Assist with system integration involving embedded electronics, sensors, RF subsystems, power electronics, or signal processing elements, depending on project needs.
  • Participate in requirements definition, detailed design reviews, and risk and issue tracking.
  • Contribute to technical reports, project documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and government customers.
