About The Position

Perform advanced transmission system analyses that may include the following types of studies: steady-state power flow, short circuit, transient stability, voltage stability, and transfer capability.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Requires a minimum of two years of electric utility or power engineering experience that includes performing engineering calculations and/or design
  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to certify and use personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs on a daily basis.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner, and enter/exit vehicle unassisted.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power flow studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
  • Perform short circuit studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
  • Perform stability studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
  • Update power flow models to reflect changes in topology, resources and load.
  • Represent CenterPoint Energy on applicable ERCOT and NERC working groups, user groups and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance to applicable NERC standards, produce compliance reports and participate in audit activities.
  • Work cooperatively and jointly with other departments within the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
