About The Position

Perform advanced transmission system analyses that may include the following types of studies: steady-state power flow, short circuit, transient stability, voltage stability, and transfer capability.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
Requires a minimum of two years of electric utility or power engineering experience that includes performing engineering calculations and/or design
Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
Able to certify and use personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs on a daily basis.
Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner, and enter/exit vehicle unassisted.

Responsibilities

Perform power flow studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
Perform short circuit studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
Perform stability studies to determine system improvements needed to maintain transmission system reliability.
Update power flow models to reflect changes in topology, resources and load.
Represent CenterPoint Energy on applicable ERCOT and NERC working groups, user groups and cross-functional teams.
Ensure compliance to applicable NERC standards, produce compliance reports and participate in audit activities.
Work cooperatively and jointly with other departments within the company.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
