About The Position

The Electrical Engineer – Instrumentation & Control (I&C) will design, develop, and implement control systems for our advanced stellarator technologies. This role focuses on distributed control software, hardware integration, and lifecycle support of instrumentation and control solutions for highly complex scientific equipment. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, safe, and high-performance operation of fusion system components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience with instrumentation and control systems in complex technical environments
  • Experience with distributed, real-time control systems.
  • Proficiency in control software development (e.g., C/C++, Python, PLC programming, or similar)
  • Experience with programming and interfacing with PLCs
  • Knowledge of requirements management and systems engineering practices
  • Experience with version control and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub
  • Experience with lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop distributed control software for stellarator systems and subsystems
  • Design and implement instrumentation and control architectures for complex equipment
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, interface definitions, and test plans
  • Support the full requirements lifecycle — from requirements development and traceability through verification and validation
  • Develop and maintain I&C drivers for a wide range of stellarator instrumentation and equipment
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline implementation, testing automation, and software quality practices
  • Support system integration, testing, and commissioning of hardware and software components
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues during development and operational phases
  • Collaborate with mechanical, physics, software, and systems engineering teams
  • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and regulatory expectations for nuclear/fusion environments
