About The Position

Responsibilities include but are not limited to; maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment and participation as a member of a plant staff that is effective in operating and maintaining a combined cycle facility in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • Required to have a telephone, may be required to be on call as needed, and will be required to work overtime as deemed necessary by plant management.
  • Must have demonstrated technical skills with instrumentation/control and electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge in programming digital equipment.
  • Familiar with distributed control systems.
  • Experience with 120V, 480V, 5KV, 21KV, 345KV systems, DC systems, switchgear, MCC’s, breakers, contactors, protective relays, etc.
  • Experience with heat trace systems.
  • Familiar with operation and maintenance of rotating equipment.
  • Familiar with predictive tools such as infrared monitoring, oil analysis, gas analysis and vibration monitoring.
  • Basic proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Good verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Develop and present technical training, as required, to the plant operating staff.
  • Must have problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and support teams, either as a leader or team member.
  • Must be able to continually look for opportunities to create value through innovation and efficient use of existing resources.
  • Proficiency in use of metering tools, calibration tools, hand-held tools, and power equipment
  • Capable of frequently standing; walking; sitting; climbing; stooping and crouching; kneeling; reaching; pushing; pulling; grasping; talking; lifting and hearing
  • Capable of lifting objects with weight of up to 50 pounds.
  • Worker will be exposed to temperatures greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit; equipment noise greater than 85 dbl; and hazards such as high-pressure steam lines.
  • Capable of using computer, telephone, radio, metering and calibration tools, hand-held tools, power equipment, etc.
  • Capable of climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work at heights and with adverse conditions during operations and when participating in fire / emergency activities.
  • Ability to enter and work in a confined space.
  • Ability to work call out maintenance or rotating shift schedule.
  • Ability to hear audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment, and portable radio communication.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR.
  • All applicants must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program in order to be considered a candidate for this position.
  • POSS / MASS exams are administered on an as-needed basis by Human Resources and all communication concerning the testing is sent to the candidate's email address provided during the application process.
  • Worker must possess knowledge of High, Medium, and Low Voltage electrical systems,
  • Proficiency in standard personal computer email, spreadsheet, and CMMS software is required.
  • Vocation or technical degree with an electrical major (I&C minor) and 3 to 5 years work related experience or high school diploma and (5) years of experience in maintaining equipment in a power plant environment.

  • Combined Cycle Plant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, repair and install plant electrical equipment.
  • Conduct low, medium and high voltage switching and grounding activities for all plant auxiliary equipment.
  • Locate, analyze and correct malfunctions of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Use of computers for communication and research
  • Ability to use electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and blueprints for troubleshooting.
  • Use precision instruments for electrical measurements
  • Perform maintenance on 345 KV and below electrical equipment.
  • Perform common testing of generators, transformers and motors.
  • Perform common testing of heat trace systems
  • At all times, demonstrate safe electrical work practices
  • Manage and work with vendors and contractors.
  • Analyze and repair boiler and turbine control systems.
  • Assisting in calibrations, repair and maintenance of all instrumentation and control equipment at the site including the plant DCS.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems as required to maintain plant output.
  • Repair, replace, or modify instrumentation as required to maintain plant’s operating status.
  • Assist in designing new control loops to improve control of plant operations, or to correct control system problems
  • Assist with maintaining the plant CEMS equipment.
  • Be able to read process flow diagrams
  • Document and maintain records of instrumentation and control history.
  • Maintain data acquisition systems and their database to ensure reliable information
  • Run computer diagnostic programs.
  • Understand and able to execute maintenance in accordance with the plant workflow process.
  • Giving directions to the operator in the field to support operation of the plant
  • Comply with all environmental permits and reporting procedures pertaining to the plant.
  • Comply with all Vistra policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a team member with all members of Vistra staff.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel to other Vistra facilities to provide outage or project support.
