About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining the instrumentation and control systems of the Luminant Fossil Fleet, in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally sound manner. Through years of experience, the Specialist is well versed in all facets of the I&C related equipment including DCS, Turbine Control Systems, PLCs, and field instrumentation. Functions as a leader and trainer for less experienced personnel. Frequently works with minimal direct supervision and is required to display initiative in his/her area of responsibility. The I&C Specialist is a model employee displaying a positive attitude, exemplifying core values, safe work practices, the use of HPI Tools, and job ownership. The level of the position will be determined by applicable skills/experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
  • Associates degree in Instrumentation or Electronics preferred and two (2) years as a Tech. Senior or seven (7) years related work experience.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot low voltage electrical circuits.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to perform calibrations and maintenance of field instrumentation including transmitters (level, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.), control valves, valve positioners, thermocouples, etc.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the power plant processes (material handling, water side equipment, air side equipment, emission controls, turbine/generator, etc.).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how job assignment impacts other systems/units and uses this knowledge to maximize safety and minimize equipment problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and utilization of resources required to perform job, such as drawings, instruction books, calibration data sheets, MAXIMO, etc.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the Plant DCS, PLCs and TCS.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the control systems communication networks (DCS, TCS & PLC).
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to configure and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain weigh scales.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to create/modify logic and graphics configurations.
  • Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively tune control loops.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform work incorporating strict adherence to Safety procedures and best practices and continually observe for safe working practices.
  • Regularly develops and presents safety topics.
  • Lead by example in a positive way when conducting Pre-job/Post-job meetings and displaying the use of HPI tools.
  • Exhibit effective usage of all HPI Tools and coach fellow workers to employ them daily.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance and/or compliance activities on the plant instrumentation and control systems, including weekends, holidays, and scheduled shift.
  • Assume a lead role during Unit start-up/shut-down activities.
  • Enter WRs and PRs into Maximo.
  • Recommend and lead in the design and implementation of O&M and Capital projects.
  • Identify the necessity of projects and repairs.
  • Make contacts with Vendors for budgetary estimates.
  • Compile quotes and contractor estimates and make the presentation to the Supervisor and Asset Management in order to seek verbal approval and ultimately funding for the prospective project.
  • Communicate LOTO requests to Operations.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with Operations, Electrical, Purchasing, Warehouse personnel, other support groups and Vendors.
  • Successfully delivers results by thorough and detailed completion of job responsibilities.
  • Communicate to the Supervisor ANY unusual and out -of- the-ordinary equipment condition or issues which may hinder normal operation or may cause budget impacting cost.
  • Cover on-call duties for the I&C department.
  • Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolution of issues associated with plant instrumentation & control systems.
  • Keep abreast of the ever changing procedures involving outage work and contractor requirements.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Lead Technician during his absence.
