About The Position

The Engineer II is a mid-level engineering position that provides technical engineering information and support to senior engineers, helping ensure projects meet project requirements, engineering standards, applicable codes, and specifications. The role applies electrical engineering knowledge in power distribution, lighting, grounding, energy conservation, and value engineering to design state-of-the-art, constructible projects. The position may lead projects of limited scope and oversee assigned junior engineers, designers, and staff. It works across design and construction, coordinating with the Engineer of Record, project teams, clients, architects, contractors, and operations teams. Duties may also include on-site field assignments and travel of up to 25%, excluding local field visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architectural engineering, or construction sciences, or equivalent experience; education, training, and relevant experience may be combined.
  • Typically requires at least 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Working electrical engineering knowledge in power distribution, lighting, grounding, energy conservation, and value engineering for constructible projects.
  • Competency in the majority of Engineer I skills.
  • Proficiency with analytics programs for short-circuit and overcurrent coordination, and arc-flash analysis programs.
  • Fluency with applicable codes and working knowledge of energy-efficiency requirements.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk, Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel), and illumination software.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.

  • Develop complete and accurate sequences of operations for designed systems.
  • Apply working knowledge of equipment and system testing and commissioning.
  • Coordinate design with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades.
  • Prepare, check, and specify power, lighting, and auxiliary system designs.
  • Prepare power system single-line diagrams, including feeder and overcurrent protection sizing and equipment elevations.
  • Conduct short-circuit, overcurrent protection device coordination, and arc-flash mitigation studies.
  • Calculate distribution capacity related to voltage drop, voltage droop, and underground heat effects using Neher-McGrath as applicable.
  • Coordinate work with project specifications and equipment buy-out.
  • Visit job sites to survey existing electrical conditions; assignments may include on-site field work.
  • Use engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyze loads, lighting levels, and short-circuit currents.
  • Conduct value-engineering functions.
  • Attend project design team meetings and interface with clients, architects, mechanical contractors, and other team members.
  • Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors.
