About The Position

At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Electrical Engineer, Automation to join the Wiremold Team in West Hartford, CT. The Electrical Engineer, Automation is responsible for design of automated equipment and production cells. They will work individually and as part of a manufacturing team, specify and design new automation systems, troubleshoots and improve existing automation, develop documentation packages and training for process technicians and floor personnel.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in machine/automation design – focus on controls-side / PLC preferred.
  • Sound technical knowledge of automated equipment.
  • Good mechanical skills.
  • Experience programming robotics and PLCs – Allen Bradley RSLogix and ControlLogix preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to efficiently summarize information in an effective manner.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a variety of teams.
  • Highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail.
  • Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD or Solidworks.

Responsibilities

  • Specify equipment needed to create new automated work cells including robotics, material handling systems, packaging equipment, etc.
  • Define scope-of-work and coordinate internal and external resources to achieve project timelines.
  • Write PLC programs for new systems created in house and provide assistance in troubleshooting existing automated equipment.
  • Write new robotic programs and revise existing programs for maximum efficiency.
  • Improve existing automation cells for increased uptime and output.
  • Support implementation of production monitoring and performance software (ex. OEE) into existing legacy equipment.
  • Occasional use of Solidworks to design automation system components; coordinate fabrication of components with in-house and external vendors to meet deliverable dates.
  • Participate in cross-functional Kaizen improvement teams.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.
