Electrical Engineer, AC Power Systems

The Boring CompanyBastrop, TX

About The Position

The Boring Company is working to disrupt the economics of tunnel construction by designing better machines, automating traditionally manual processes, and vertically integrating more of the systems required to build tunnels. Driving tunneling cost down and throughput up is critical to making underground transportation feasible and scalable, with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions. This role will own the design and development of AC power systems for our tunnel boring machines and supporting equipment. The engineer will work directly with manufacturing, mechanical, controls, and field teams to design power systems that are practical to build, operate, troubleshoot, and continuously improve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Experience designing AC power systems, preferably medium- and high-voltage distribution for industrial equipment, switchgear, substations, E-Houses, PDCs, or other manufactured electrical products
  • Strong understanding of transformers, switchgear, breakers, protection, MCCs, VFDs, motors, grounding, and electrical distribution
  • Experience creating engineering deliverables such as single-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, cable schedules, BOMs, and design calculations
  • Experience working closely with manufacturing or production teams to support electrical builds, troubleshoot hardware, and incorporate test/build feedback into the design

Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical design of AC power systems for tunnel boring machines, including medium- and high-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, drives, motors, protection, and controls interfaces
  • Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and bills of materials
  • Perform electrical calculations including equipment sizing, cable sizing, short-circuit, load flow, voltage drop, grounding, and protection coordination
  • Select and integrate transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, MCCs, VFDs, motors, and other power-distribution equipment
  • Work directly with manufacturing technicians and engineers to resolve build issues and ensure electrical designs are practical, reliable, and manufacturable
  • Support electrical inspection and testing of completed assemblies, troubleshoot failures, and drive design changes based on test results
  • Own engineering changes, drawing revisions, component substitutions, and design updates throughout the product lifecycle
  • Develop and improve electrical architectures that increase machine reliability, simplify manufacturing, and support greater automation of tunneling operations

Benefits

  • Employer-paid medical coverage
  • Employer-paid dental coverage
  • Employer-paid vision coverage
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid vacation
  • Competitive amount of equity for all permanent employees
