Electrical Commissioning Engineer

Overwatch Mission Critical•Remote,

About The Position

The Electrical Commissioning Engineer assists with electrical validation and power reliability for large-scale, mission-critical data center construction projects. The role leads quality assurance and quality control across Levels 2 through 3 (L2–L3) and assists with commissioning across Levels 4 through 5 (L4–L5). The engineer provides technical oversight to field technicians and electrical contractors, connecting electrical designs with field conditions to help ensure reliable medium-voltage distribution, backup systems, and emergency power topologies. The role involves commissioning data center electrical systems, reviewing test documentation and procedures, tracking deficiencies, and assisting with functional and integrated systems testing. Relevant systems include medium- and low-voltage distribution, emergency power generation, UPS and energy storage systems, transfer switches, power management and monitoring systems, protective relays, and grounding and lightning protection systems. The position is deployment-site based and may require travel 50% to 65% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent technical field experience.
  • At least 1 year of direct electrical commissioning, engineering, or mission-critical facilities construction experience.
  • Experience leading L2–L3 programs on hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise builds.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex single-line diagrams (SLDs), three-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, control wiring diagrams, and time-current coordination curves.
  • Ability to navigate construction sites, climb ladders, and lift up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Level 2 documentation verification, on-site installation checks, and construction-readiness reviews.
  • Lead Level 3 equipment startup and vendor startup validation.
  • Assist with Level 4 functional performance testing, including component-level testing such as breaker coordination, insulation resistance, and component failovers.
  • Assist with Level 5 integrated systems testing, including load-bank heat-load and electrical-fault testing to validate redundancy, concurrent maintainability, transient behaviors, and automated transfer schemes.
  • Review site-specific test scripts, Method Statements (MOPs), Energization Plans, and pre-functional checklists.
  • Contribute to the electrical project issue log; categorize discrepancies and safety gaps by risk, track them, and support remediation by vendors without affecting the master schedule.
  • Provide technical oversight to field technicians and electrical contractors.
  • Validate installation, protection tuning, and failure modes of critical electrical systems.
