About The Position

The Electric Engineering department ensures all aspects of electric engineering, including standards, process safety, design, testing, controls, undergrounding, regulatory compliance, and investment planning, are in place to support a strategic and stable work plan for Electric Operations partners. This organization is responsible for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution for all electric engineering projects, employing approximately 2,000 coworkers. This journey-level engineer position requires mastery of Associate Engineer skills and duties. The role involves providing strategy, engineering, operations, maintenance, and technical implementation support for substations. Responsibilities will increase with experience and demonstrated ability. This is a hybrid position, requiring work from a remote office and the assigned work location within the PG&E Service Territory based on business needs.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical OR Civil Engineering from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US.
  • 3 years of experience in electrical or civil engineering, planning and/or operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Current and active California PE license
  • Knowledge of substations and substation equipment
  • Experience working with low voltage AC equipment (for electrical engineers)
  • Experience working with fences and walls (for civil engineers)
  • Able to apply basic engineering principles and theory.
  • Assess and recommend solutions for routine projects.
  • Experience or comfort with tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, ET-GIS
  • Background in six sigma process
  • Work easily with data to find trends
  • Knowledge of reliability metrics such as SAIDI, SAIFI, ACOD, ACOF

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering analyses, studies and review project scope for standards compliance.
  • Develop and implement PG&E’s electric substation asset strategy.
  • Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations.
  • Perform, document and publish equipment ratings.
  • Assist other engineers, team members, and supervisor by developing, compiling, and providing technical data.
  • Update and manage databases as required.
  • Prepare or support incident investigations, equipment failure analyses and reliability studies.
  • Comply with FERC, CPUC, CAISO and other regulations and requirements.
  • Communicate with regulators, customers and other external stakeholders to advance PG&E’s objectives.
