About The Position

Performs the less complex electric system design with focus on BGE Electric Distribution system, including relocation, extension, abandonment, and removal of facilities which requires the application of published standards and calculations using computer aided design and drafting methods. Models equipment and pole framing to be used in the Construction Standards. Reviews plans of proposed framing requests and deviations to determine the extent of interference with our existing standards. Performs necessary engineering required to determine project cost and required construction resources while updating and maintaining compatible units. Performs field location survey work to measure clearances and aid in the Distribution Clearance Line Program. Job duties are electric distribution. Work assignments and prerequisite skills depend upon the specific unit in which this position resides. Subject to overtime.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, and mechanical drawing necessary to create legible, accurate, and technically acceptable construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with utility maps and records.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings, such as schematics, wiring diagrams, or elementary diagrams.
  • Ability to learn and apply utility design standards, protection and control concepts, and substation equipment fundamentals.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail with the ability to follow structured design processes and produce accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a team‑oriented, project‑driven environment.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Technical Occupations Selection System Test.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards.
  • Ability to use personal vehicle on a regular basis for Company business.
  • May be required to become Notary Public in the State of Maryland, depending on specific assignment.
  • High School Diploma
  • Experience in the construction and installation of gas/electric/lighting facilities is required.
  • Must have experience with utility processes, industry standards and codes.
  • Experience or training in the utilization of CADD is required.
  • In lieu of these requirements; the equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Associate Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design OR Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology or In lieu of degree, 5+years of experience in design and/or drafting disciplines, with a background in system protection and control.
  • Familiarity with compatible units and their use to develop construction estimates.
  • Pole loading and experience with PoleForeman modeling and analysis.
