About The Position

The Elko County Clerk’s Office encourages interested high school students to become involved in the election process by working at a polling location on Election Day as a Poll Worker. Students will work as a team with other Poll Workers, gaining hands-on experience in how local elections are conducted. They will receive training on opening a polling place, processing voters, and closing the polls. This experience aims to inspire them to vote when they reach 18 and foster a lifelong appreciation for the electoral process. The role involves a long day, starting at 5:30 a.m. and potentially working as late as 9 p.m. Students are responsible for their own transportation, and assigned polling places will be as close to their homes as possible. Students are paid the same stipend amount as other polling place workers, with checks mailed 2 to 3 weeks following the election.
