About The Position

Douglas County is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Election Workers for the upcoming 2026 General Election, from October 17th to November 3rd. Election Workers contribute to the integrity of the election process by assisting fellow voters and ensuring County Vote Centers are properly maintained. Unpaid volunteer and paid employee positions are available. The salary is $12.00 per hour. There are two main roles: Election Worker/Technical, which focuses on using and troubleshooting electronic equipment, and Election Worker/Non-Technical, which focuses on coordinating logistics and ensuring a smooth voter experience.

Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • A registered voter in Nevada (18 yrs+ or preregistered if 17-18 yrs old)
  • Not be a candidate for nomination or election
  • Not be a relative of a candidate for nomination or election
  • Be able to competently operate tablets and voting machines
  • Mandatory training program includes both online modules and a hands-on, in-person session
  • Work with team members to set up tables, chairs, voting booths, and signs before vote centers open
  • Disassemble everything and prepare all materials and equipment for secure transport back to the election office
  • Remain strictly non-partisan while on the job
  • Technical proficiency, problem solving skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and customer service (Technical)
  • Customer service skills to ensure a smooth, accessible, and positive experience for voters (Non-Technical)

  • Prior experience with voter equipment is helpful

Responsibilities

  • Set up and close Vote Centers
  • Help voters understand their rights
  • Help voters use voting equipment
  • Protect ballots and voting equipment
  • Perform ALL duties, including learning, understanding, and following procedures and instructions
  • Maintain a professional and impartial demeanor with a focus on assisting all voters courteously and efficiently
  • Work well as a team member
  • Assist voters by answering questions and helping fix minor technical issues with voting devices (Technical)
  • Verify a voter's eligibility and perform signature verification using Electronic PollPads (Technical)
  • Serve on the counting and accuracy boards (Technical)
  • Sort and verify mail ballots and ensure the integrity and security of the vote-by-mail process (Technical)
  • Direct voters to the correct lines to ensure a steady and orderly flow, especially during peak hours (Non-Technical)
  • Answer questions, provide instructions, and maintain a calm and welcoming atmosphere (Non-Technical)
  • Assist voters in line to prepare for the check-in process by ensuring the voter has all the necessary information or documents ready (Non-Technical)
  • Maintain the designated "no electioneering" space (Non-Technical)
  • Address any minor issues (Non-Technical)
  • Keep the voting areas clean and ensure supplies are readily available (Non-Technical)
