About The Position

The Freelance Firm is a national network of experienced, freelance attorneys and paralegals providing remote, on-demand support for legal projects. We are seeking a qualified, experienced, and dedicated Elder Law & Litigation Paralegal to provide ongoing remote support to a West Virginia law firm. The role is contract-based with approximately 10+ hours per week initially, with potential for growth. The paralegal will provide substantive litigation support, assist with elder law paperwork, and handle client communications.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of law firm experience as a Paralegal.
  • Strong, direct litigation paralegal experience.
  • Ability to provide litigation support.
  • Experience assisting with procedural aspects of active litigation matters.
  • Ability and willingness to handle both substantive litigation assignments and more routine paperwork and forms.
  • Experience completing forms and documentation associated with non-litigation matters.
  • Comfortable communicating directly and professionally with clients.
  • Strong organizational and case-management skills.
  • Must be comfortable working remotely and largely independently.
  • Ability to take ownership of assignments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work product.
  • Approximately 10+ hours per week of current availability, with the capacity to take on additional hours as the firm's needs grow.

Nice To Haves

  • Litigation experience in elder law, probate, personal injury, or general civil litigation.
  • West Virginia legal experience.
  • Prior elder law, estate/probate, or personal injury litigation experience.
  • Experience supporting a solo attorney or small law firm.

Responsibilities

  • Provide litigation support including court filings, reviewing and organizing case materials, corresponding with opposing counsel, and proactively keeping matters moving.
  • Assist with procedural aspects of active litigation matters.
  • Handle substantive litigation assignments.
  • Complete forms and documentation associated with non-litigation matters.
  • Communicate directly and professionally with clients.
  • Independently track assignments and deadlines.
  • Provide dependable, ongoing support without extensive supervision.
