About The Position

Bellingham Public Schools is seeking an ELA Tutor for Bellingham Memorial School. This is a 19.5-hour per week position for one year only. The role involves providing small group instruction in English Language Arts, both in-class and out-of-class, utilizing various learning models including in-person, virtual, and remote. The tutor will work closely with the Literacy Specialist and classroom teacher to deliver rigorous ELA content, strategies, and skills. Responsibilities include administering and documenting assessments, participating in the Intervention team to discuss student progress, creating and updating RTI plans, attending professional development and meetings, and fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and families. The position also involves evaluating and recommending materials, incorporating technology, and adhering to district policies.

Requirements

  • Completed at least two years of study at an institute of higher education, obtained at least an associate degree or meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to assist in instruction ELA.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching ELA at 4-7 levels per the Massachusetts Frameworks preferred.
  • Knowledge of Google classroom, Google meet, and iReady helpful.
  • Understanding of or experience using standardized reading programs including LLI, Soar to Success, Just Words/Wilson preferred.
  • Experience with BAS, Cloze, TOSWRF, and Running Records is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Provide small group, in-class and out-of-class instruction in English Language Arts.
  • Work with the Literacy specialist and classroom teacher to provide rigorous, small group ELA content, strategies, and skills instruction.
  • Utilize in-person, virtual, and remote learning models.
  • Administer and document formal, informal, and progress monitoring assessments.
  • Meet routinely with the Intervention team using data to discuss students’ progress and needs.
  • Create and update RTI plans and reports.
  • Attend and actively engage in all professional development, data analysis, planning, and parent meetings.
  • Become involved in the academic and social aspects of school life to support student success, school spirit, and school climate and culture.
  • Engage in a continuous cycle of feedback and improvement regarding instruction, planning, and classroom culture.
  • Evaluate and recommend materials and programs beneficial for the intervention program.
  • Incorporate technology when appropriate in tutoring sessions.
  • Adhere to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
  • Foster a positive relationship with students, staff, and family.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
