About The Position

This position facilitates patient throughput and enhances patient satisfaction with the testing process. The EKG Technician will check for new orders, review physician's orders on the patient's chart, identify patients via two methods, explain procedures, and protect patient's privacy. The role involves conducting computerized electrocardiogram and electroencephalogram testing, ensuring proper chest and limb lead placement, and assessing the quality of the tracing. The technician will record technically accurate EKG/EEG tracings, promptly communicate life-threatening arrhythmias, and perform the Thoracic Bio-impedance procedure. Responsibilities also include printing daily logs, entering charges, troubleshooting minor equipment problems, managing supplies, and assuming accountability for all actions in the workplace. The EKG Technician will act as a patient/family advocate, participate in performance improvement activities, and work cooperatively with all staff. This position is security-sensitive.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience.
  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Responsibilities

  • Uses proper chest and limb lead placement.
  • Assesses quality of tracing as related to baseline stability, lack of electrical interference, and freedom from artifact.
  • Records technically accurate EKG/EEG tracing and places preliminary copy in patient's chart or, in the case of EEG's, forwards to Neurologist for review.
  • Promptly communicates the presence of any life-threatening arrhythmia to the patient's nurse.
  • Performs the Thoracic Bio-impedance procedure.
  • Places completed report on the patient's chart immediately post procedure.
  • Prints daily log and checks against daily transaction log.
  • Enter charges as needed and credits for services not rendered.
  • Places EKG final report on chart after read by physician.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot minor equipment problems.
  • Reports malfunctions to manager and notifies Biomed.
  • Facilitates the storage and retrieval of records.
  • Checks and orders supplies, leads, electrodes and paper with consideration for cost containment.
  • Assumes accountabilities for all actions in the workplace.
  • Reports errors promptly and takes appropriate follow-up action to rectify the error.
  • Effective patient/family advocate.
  • Responds to patient's and/or patient's family's complaints in an appropriate and effective manner.
  • Reports complaints to the Manager or their designer in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes the chain of command appropriately to resolve patient, operational, or personal work-related problems.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as directed.
  • Attends at least 80%25 of scheduled staff meetings and attends 100%25 of mandatory educational sessions.
  • Works cooperatively with all staff and supports staff new to the environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
