About The Position

Maintains highly complex electrical, electronic, or mechanical equipment, structures, components or portions of systems and facilitate operations. Participates in the maintenance and repair of cryogenic electrical and electronic equipment, instrumentation, and controls within cryogenics operations. Provides technical support for modification and/or installation projects and updating "as built" drawings and other documentation. Operates various types of rotating and reciprocating machines such as helium screw compressors, helium reciprocating expansion engines, vacuum pumps, and all associated components that support ongoing testing and accelerator operations. Maintains the operations logbook, maintenance records, and other documentation.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years relevant experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper use of hand tools, hardware, power tools.
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper use of electrical diagnostics equipment such as multimeters, meggers, etc.
  • Knowledge of the proper use of soldering iron and soldering wires and electronic components.
  • The ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, controls enclosure drawings and equipment manuals.
  • The ability to safely troubleshoot and understand operation of electrical equipment, basics of cryogenic control system and instrumentation.
  • Some knowledge of pneumatic and electric control valves.
  • The ability to understand and read P&I diagrams.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and repair medium and low voltage cryogenic electrical equipment, wiring and conduits.
  • Install, maintain and repair instrumentation, cryogenic control system, electric and pneumatic valves.
  • Update "as built" electrical and mechanical drawings where applicable.
  • Operate cryogenic equipment including supporting operations.
  • Perform tasks such as sensor calibration, wiring repairs, troubleshooting of controls systems, installation and hookup of electrical motors and installation of conduit.
  • Document work in operations logbooks, maintenance records, "as built" drawings and any other forms.
  • Complete assigned tasks utilizing work control documents and safety procedures.
  • Involved in the daily operations of the helium refrigeration plants. This may include starting/stopping machinery, system monitoring, opening/closing valves, and receiving gas deliveries.
  • Support operations as a cryogenic coordinator on-call and responding to after-hours operational emergencies.
