About The Position

The San Diego EHSS department is a collaborative and creative team. We bring a genuine commitment to keep our workforce safe and protect the environment. The EHSS Specialist recommends corrective actions where environmental health and safety hazards exist. They interact with others in our workforce and have great interpersonal skills. They may provide training, ensure compliance with EHSS regulations, write policies and programs, run safety meetings, interface with regulatory agencies and monitor industrial health parameters.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local OSHA regulations, fire and safety codes, engineering safety standards and environmental quality regulations.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Critical thinker that excels at problem solving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, occupational health, environmental health and safety or related field.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Improve EHS workplace performance by promoting a positive safety culture and implementing safety and environmental management systems in accordance with regulations, corporate compliance policies and standards.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace.
  • Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analyses and risk assessments.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to mitigate workplace incidents and injuries.
  • Develop policies, programs and visual support materials for employees in areas such as electrical and fire safety, ergonomics, safety inspections, material handling, emergency response, and life safety.
  • Develop specialized EHSS education and training materials.
  • Review, investigate and implement action plans for injuries, illnesses, accidents and safety concerns.
  • Coordinate and participate in committees and attend meetings related to employee safety, manufacturing process safety, fire safety, as well as property loss or damage.
  • Support sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide expertise in safety risk management, statistics and EHSS trends.
  • Coordinate and conduct worksite inspections and audits.
