About The Position

The Environmental Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) Manager is responsible for the leadership, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site EHSS programs. This role ensures compliance with all applicable environmental, health, safety, and security regulations while driving a culture of safety and operational excellence. The EHSS Manager partners with site leadership to align EHSS initiatives with business objectives, mitigate risk, and maintain regulatory compliance. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive EHS experience, including leadership responsibilities in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental and safety compliance programs (OSHA, EPA, IDEM).
  • Experience with environmental permitting and reporting programs required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.
  • Wastewater certification or licensing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site EHSS strategies, policies, and objectives.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and advisor to leadership on EHSS matters.
  • Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide leadership, hands-on coaching, and direction to supervisors and employees on EHSS expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state (including IDEM), and local regularity bodies.
  • Manage and maintain environmental programs, including: Industrial stormwater compliance (inspections, sampling, reporting), RCCRA, Hazardous waste management (Large Quantity Generator requirements), Wastewater discharge (permit compliance and monitoring), Air permitting (Title V compliance, monitoring, and reporting), Tier II and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting.
  • Maintain required permits, records, and documentation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for emergencies, regulatory agencies and external auditors.
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Monitor EHS&S performance metrics and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure audit readiness and lead internal and external EHSS audits.
  • Oversee site safety programs, including injury prevention, emergency response, and occupational health.
  • Develop and maintain site security procedures and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure appropriate emergency preparedness and response plans are in place and tested.
  • Develop and deliver EHSS training programs for employees and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with required training programs (e.g., HazMat, regulatory, emergency response).
  • Lead safety meetings, committees, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Communicate EHSS policies, procedures, and performance updates to stakeholders.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, HR, and other functions to integrate EHSS into business processes.
  • Maintain accurate EHSS data, reports, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory reports and internal performance metrics.
  • Establish, track, and report key EHSS performance indicators (KPIs), including leading and lagging metrics (e.g., incident rates, near misses, audit findings, training completion, environmental exceedances).
  • Analyze trends and performance data to identify risks, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop actionable plans based on metric outcomes to drive continuous improvement in safety, environmental compliance, and security performance.
  • Ensure accurate, timely reporting of EHS&S metrics to site and corporate leadership.
  • Maintain systems and processes for data collection, validation, and reporting integrity.
  • Support annual goal setting and benchmarking activities aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Monitor regulatory and internal compliance metrics to ensure adherence to permit limits, reporting deadlines, and corrective action closure.
  • Use data-driven insights to influence decision-making, resource allocation, and prioritization of EHS&S initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
