About The Position

This position is responsible for the EHS oversight to ensure the department complies with relevant laws and regulations regarding safety, health, and environmental protection. Includes effective implementation of projects, schedules, contracts, and compliance programs to ensure the NYC sites (Astoria, Gowanus, and Narrows) are in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, as well as corporate policies, goals, targets, and programs.

Requirements

  • A four-year engineering degree
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, environmental due diligence, regulatory compliance, and safety program management
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, such as CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, and OPA90
  • Good project management and communication skills
  • Ability to work overtime and extended hours, including emergency calls during off-hours
  • Ability to deal with complex environmental issues
  • Candidate must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Comfortable working in various settings, including office, laboratory, outside in all seasons and all elements, and in a boiler room during all conditions
  • Sitting, standing, walking for long periods of time
  • Climbing, working at heights
  • Carrying loads of up to 50 lbs
  • Out-of-area and overnight travel (at company expense) via air, road, and rail is required to attend necessary training
  • Successful applicants must also pass the respirator physical/fit test
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Must obtain all necessary New York City Fire Department Certificates of Fitness

Responsibilities

  • Manage the EHS department
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, including USEPA, USCG, NYSDEC, OSHA, NYC DEP, and FDNY
  • Undertakes activities to verify and improve environmental and safety compliance
  • Prepares regulatory filings, reports, and submittments
  • Manages capital and O&M projects
  • Interfaces directly with all federal, state, and local regulatory entities
  • Works with members of other internal teams and external parties on ongoing matters and projects as needed
  • Performs emergency response activities as required, including but not limited to oil/chemical spill response
  • Oversee site safety program
