EHS Manager
About The Position
We are seeking an experienced EHS Manager to lead Environmental, Health & Safety programs for manufacturing operations in Alabama. Manufacturing processes include plastic injection molding, painting/coating, die casting, welding, assembly, and other automotive component manufacturing operations. The role focuses strongly on environmental compliance and permitting while providing overall EHS leadership for the site. The position also supports development and launch of new manufacturing operations at a brownfield facility, including facility modifications, equipment installation, commissioning, and production ramp-up. The ideal candidate is a hands-on EHS professional with strong environmental expertise, particularly in air permitting and manufacturing emissions compliance. They should independently identify environmental and safety requirements for new equipment, processes, materials, and production changes, and work effectively with manufacturing and engineering teams to implement practical compliance solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of manufacturing EHS experience, including 3 years in a leadership role.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental compliance, machine safety, and LOTO requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with new plant construction or production launch.
- Automotive manufacturing experience.
- CSP, ASP, CIH, or CHMM certification.
- Experience in automotive or automotive component manufacturing.
- Environmental compliance experience with painting/coating, die casting, injection molding, and/or welding operations.
- Strong experience with air permitting and VOC/HAP emissions compliance.
- Experience supporting brownfield facility development, plant expansion, equipment installation, or new production launches.
- Familiarity with Alabama environmental regulations and ADEM permitting/compliance requirements.
- CHMM, CSP, CIH, PE, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 experience.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain the plant’s EHS management system.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, Alabama regulations, fire codes, and company standards.
- Manage EHS activities during plant construction, equipment installation, production launch, and mass production.
- Lead risk assessments, safety inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
- Manage contractor safety, LOTO, machine safety, hot work, and emergency response programs.
- Coordinate environmental permits related to air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous materials, and waste.
- Provide EHS training and support regulatory, customer, and internal audits.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and continuously improve EHS performance.
