About The Position

Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Plant Hatch Site Engineering organization is seeking a high performing Electrical Engineer with an analytical mindset and strong technical and leadership skills to support operation of the next generation nuclear power station. This position will be located at Southern Nuclear Company's Plant Hatch in Baxley, Georgia. This position is assigned to the Site Design Engineering organization in the EFIN (Engineering Fix-It-Now) group and is part of the Engineering organization at the Plant Hatch site. This position will provide electrical engineering support for troubleshooting and design changes primarily for the station’s electrical equipment. Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates eight nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by operating the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. The two newly-commissioned Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently operating at Plant Vogtle make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to work at the site and reside close enough to site to respond within 90 minutes
  • Must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements
  • Must satisfactorily complete the Systems Engineering training program
  • The successful candidate must be willing to travel to other plants within the fleet for mentoring during qualification process
  • Flexible member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO)

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial nuclear power plant experience in design, modifications, and/or systems engineering is plus
  • Knowledge and understanding commercial nuclear power plant regulations, codes, and standards is a plus
  • 3 years engineering experience in electrical/ I&C/ Mechanical / Civil design is desired
  • 3 years nuclear power plant related engineering experience is desired
  • Previous design change experience is desired
  • Common Design Process knowledge highly desired
  • Knowledge of AP1000 highly desired
  • EIT/FE or Professional Engineer Registration is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Obtain Design qualifications and support development and implementation of design changes for Plant Hatch.
  • Obtain emergency response organization qualifications and serve on a duty team rotation
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge regarding BWR systems and equipment design - Support development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, processes, and procedures as they relate to systems
  • Participate in industry groups (EPRI, IEEE, NEI, etc.) supporting systems
