About The Position

Performs applicable electroencephalographic (EEG) and related neurodiagnostic examinations for patients as directed according to established standards and practices of non-certified technologist. Provides on-call and call back coverage as required. Conducts EEG and neurodiagnostic examinations of patients as requested by physician's order and in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, and patient safety practices. Demonstrates knowledge and skills and maintains competencies necessary to provide care of patient population served within department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education Required
  • Successful completion of EEG or Neurodiagnostic training program Required
  • Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, infant, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates Required
  • Minimum 2 years experience of recent experience or combination of relevant education/experience; Required

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient and equipment for examination.
  • Explains procedures and assures patient’s cooperation during exam.
  • Selects predetermined electrode combinations necessary for each procedure.
  • Determines locations and positions electrodes and measures impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in diagnosis of patient's condition.
  • Observes patients and equipment during exam; studies wave characteristics during test to detect evidence of brain disorders and unusual wave characteristics and records findings in patient charts/records.
  • Reports adverse or any unusual reactions or events.
  • Removes electrodes from patient at conclusion of the examination.
  • Recognizes and corrects technical errors to ensure a clear and accurate recording.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of equipment and the effective utilization of supplies.
  • Operates and maintains EEG equipment in accordance with standard procedure.
  • Cleans, calibrates and adjusts controls to maintain quality recordings.
  • Reports malfunction of equipment to manager.
  • Interacts and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff and outside representatives or agencies in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and/or hospital information.
  • Adheres to established department and organization policies in releasing patient information (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
  • Prepares and maintains required statistics, records, files and reports for administrative, financial, and compliance purposes.
  • Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives compliance/quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control program.
  • Cleans EEG area as needed.
  • Compiles and prepares various reports and data, collates and assembles reports and documents as required.
  • Utilizes computer to enter and format data.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities which includes committees, monitoring and follow-up.
  • Assists in the orientation and supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training.
  • Provides on-call and call back coverage as required.
