About The Position

Responsible for assisting with electroencephalograms and related patient care. This role involves obtaining patient history, explaining procedures, applying and filling electrodes, recording EEGs, and managing supplies and equipment. The EEG Technologist also completes necessary paperwork, documents information in the medical record, and maintains EEG files according to established protocols. The job holder must demonstrate current competencies for the position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Graduated from an accredited healthcare program.
  • Knowledge of electroencephalogram technology, principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of how to use EEG and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Skill in EEG concepts through effective assistance to patient care team.
  • Skill in using EEG equipment.
  • Skill in demonstrating customer service philosophy through effective patient education and caring, competent manner.
  • Ability to interact effectively with physicians, nurses, other staff and patients.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient history, including problems and behaviors. Obtains sedation order from physician when needed.
  • Explains EEG procedure and preparation to patient and makes them comfortable. Uses patient education materials as applicable.
  • Applies and fills electrodes. Records EEG. Removes electrodes.
  • Explains to patient when/where results will be shared.
  • Orders supplies, such as collodion, electrodes, acetone, EEG paper, ink and pens.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, initiates maintenance repairs.
  • Establishes safety check system for all EEG equipment.
  • Completes paperwork, including charge slips for EEG.
  • Documents information in the medical record.
  • Maintains EEG files.
  • Maintains a complete record on all normal and abnormal EEGs for time periods established by protocol.
  • Demonstrates current competencies for job position.
