About The Position

This is a readvertisement for the CARES Community Coordinator position. The Educational Specialist (CARES Community Coordinator) will implement community-engaged strategies, organize community events, and lead co-envisioning sessions to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange. The role involves creating committees and working groups to address community challenges, ensuring the combination of local wisdom and university expertise for problem-solving. The coordinator will act as a liaison between CTAHR faculty/staff and county communities, building relationships with local organizations and coordinating county-wide initiatives. They will also develop and maintain volunteer systems, establish networks to connect resources with community needs, and design programs that address identified community priorities. The position requires managing station resources, coordinating logistics for community initiatives, and communicating impact measurement to supervisors and university leadership. Responsibilities include preparing annual reports, communicating impact to communities, and documenting successful practices. The role involves travel throughout the assigned county to visit CARES stations and community locations, and requires working after hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays for community events and meetings. The position combines office-based administrative work with field-based community engagement.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Public Administration, Agriculture, Social Work, or a related field and (3) years of year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience in community development work with responsibilities for volunteer management and coordination, working with diverse communities and stakeholder groups, and a track record of successful community engagement; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of community-engaged, participatory, project management and organization as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with agricultural extension and community development.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and other office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability of active listening skills and understanding community concerns.
