About The Position

This position is for the New England area and the ideal candidate would be located in one of the New England states. The purpose of this role is to develop and implement strategic plans that focus on identifying opportunities, responding to customer issues and needs, prospecting, building strong relationships, pre-working activities, working pilots, working exhibits and conferences, and following up on leads. The Educational Sales Consultant will achieve or surpass sales goals for their territory within expense guidelines. They will manage their territory effectively using CRM to track opportunities, contacts, cuts, wins, and losses. The role involves generating quotes, supporting proposals, and reviewing RFPs. A key aspect is demonstrating in-depth knowledge of both print and digital products, presenting them in various settings, and utilizing competitive knowledge to position products effectively. The consultant will leverage available resources such as consultants, promotion, samples, authors, and their manager. They will also provide sales, sampling, and inventory forecasts as requested by management. Embracing change, analyzing and communicating trends impacting current and future business, and seeking out, understanding, and leveraging technology trends are crucial. The role requires demonstrating effective questioning and listening skills to identify customer issues and needs, prospecting, and meeting with new and existing New England school customers. The consultant will utilize negotiation and closing skills to secure business. They will help plan and coordinate product training with customers and PD staff for successful implementation of BEC/NL materials, plan and implement Invitationals/Presentations, and attend selected local, national, and regional exhibits. Following up on leads from various sources and providing feedback on new marketing materials are also part of the responsibilities. Participation in weekly sales team conference calls and general administrative activities are expected, along with other assigned projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or related
  • 3 - 5 years of sales experience working for a high-volume, fast-paced company
  • A quick learner, able to multi-task
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and telephone communication skills
  • Professional orientation and demeanor (able to handle and respond to external requests in a timely and courteous manner)
  • Proven ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure with flexibility (can work long hours)

  • Educational publishing experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Achieve or surpass sales goals for territory within expense guidelines.
  • Develop strategic plans to identify opportunities for supplemental, core, and PD sales and to win the business.
  • Manage the territory by using CRM effectively to enter and track: Opportunities – both supplemental and core, Contacts, Cuts, wins, and losses.

  • Seek out, understand, and leverage technology trends and needs and communicate those trends and needs to management, editorial, and marketing.
  • Demonstrate effective questioning strategies and listening skills to identify customer issues and needs.
