About The Position

The Educational Programs Coordinator is a key member that will assist the Vice President of Educational Programs with all aspects of the Tutor (STEAM program) and the Literacy programs. In this role, the Educational Programs Coordinator will 1) provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Club’s educational programming, and 2) supports instruction/adult learning through blended growth opportunities to improve the education outcomes for all Club members at his/her designated Boys & Girls Club location in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando County. The Educational Programs Coordinator must be familiar with web-based learning platforms and data management systems; Reading and Math assessments; data analysis to inform instruction; best practices in systematic, explicit instruction; Florida’s reading standards, Florida Out of School Time Standards and how to manage a classroom of diverse learners so that the learning needs of individual students are addressed. Using coaching strategies, the coordinator will deliver innovative thinking and business-changing recommendations that will inform the core of our youth development. The coordinator must be able to build and manage relationships to represent the interests of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay externally and partner with internal departments. He/she must be able to partner in the analysis and translation of research findings to drive organizational learning and impact. This is a full time, salaried exempt position. Salaried exempt means that you will not be eligible for overtime pay for hours worked more than 40 hours per week. There will be times and situations when the needs of the organization or job dictate a varied work schedule, an extended 8- hour day, some early mornings, evening work and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in reading or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 3 years of English Language Arts (ELA) teaching experience, specifically in reading, in an urban school setting, serving low income and minority students.
  • A deep understanding of theories of instruction, including the diagnostic teaching of reading and reading intervention.
  • Implementation experience, preferably of grants.
  • Considerable knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; of the practices and principles of non-profit organizations.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • A strong passion for and commitment to improving the lives of at-risk youth.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-disciplined, takes initiative, remains focused in the face of pressure.
  • Record of inspiring, engaging, and supporting others to deliver superior results.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate large scale operations.
  • Collaborator with strong people skills.

Responsibilities

  • Implement with fidelity required grants to improve literacy outcomes for all learners.
  • Assist Vice President of Educational Programs in all aspects of Academic Programming implementation and tutoring.
  • Assist Vice President of Educational Programs in supporting the continuous improvement process as it relates to Academic Programming.
  • Utilize continuous quality improvement approaches for all literacy and tutor programs delivered.
  • Use coaching strategies to support Tutors and Literacy Specialists in delivering high- quality programming for all club members.
  • Complete Grant data implementation in a timely manner.
  • Visit clubs on a daily visit to support teachers and tutors.
  • Create an environment of learning conducive to effective instruction.
  • Establish a rapport and maintain interaction with individuals/groups.
  • Model behavior which depicts respect and a feeling for the dignity and worth of others, regardless of race, creed, culture, or economic group.
  • Demonstrate ability to use teacher/student time efficiently.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement process and support Assess, Plan, Do, Cycle.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of best practices in Reading Instruction.
  • Maintain a collection on Share Point of reading/learning materials for a diverse group of educators.
  • Integrate instructional skills/strategies/technology into the educational program.
  • Utilize a variety of materials to meet the learning styles and needs of all learners.
  • Analyze data to inform instructions.
  • Develop, support and utilize program data collection tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of members’ scores and attendance.
  • Consult with the Vice President of Educational Programs and additional Boys & Girls Club Leaders to design instruction related to progress monitoring and other data sources.
  • Maintain and promptly submit accurate, complete records and required reports.
  • Communicate written and/or oral information on a given topic in a coherent and logical manner.
  • Establish rapport with Club members and staff.
  • Encourage lifelong learning.
  • Attend and participate in all required training courses and meetings.
