About The Position

The Educational Media Developer is a full-time position responsible for creating engaging multimedia assets that enhance teaching and learning in undergraduate and graduate online courses. This role collaborates with instructional designers, faculty subject matter experts (SMEs), and media production leads to translate academic content into compelling visual and multimedia learning experiences. The Educational Media Developer contributes to the development of instructional videos, graphics, animations, and interactive media that bring course concepts to life and support student engagement. This position will support multiple media formats by blending creativity, visual storytelling, and instructional design to produce media that supports effective learning experiences within a collaborative course development environment.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of multimedia production and visual design principles.
  • Ability to adapt to new and agile workflows.
  • Familiarity and skills with utilizing course authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise, or similar).
  • Knowledge and understanding of accessibility considerations for multimedia used in online learning environments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
  • Ability to successfully apply industry standards and knowledge into media production.
  • Extensive knowledge needed to be able to leverage their expertise to make informed decisions about the best media approach to support student learning and outcomes.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in multimedia design, digital media, graphic design, educational technology, instructional design, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing multimedia or digital media assets in higher education, corporate training, or a comparable learning environment.
  • Experience using professional multimedia tools for graphics, video editing, or interactive media development.
  • Experience working within collaborative project teams.
  • At least three years experience developing educational multimedia materials.
  • Experience in media archival, versioning, and file structure.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L).
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards for digital learning, such as WCAG 2.1 and Section 508, and their application to multimedia content.
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters.
  • Experience creating instructional videos or educational media for academic audiences.
  • Experience working within structured course development or instructional design production environments.
  • Experience in graphic design or motion graphics.
  • Illustration experience is a plus.
  • Experience creating digital learning media such as graphics, instructional videos, animations, or interactive elements.
  • Experience developing multimedia with multiple tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, video capture software, photo manipulation, or similar media production software.

Responsibilities

  • Creates engaging multimedia content that translates complex academic concepts into clear, visually compelling learning experiences aligned with course objectives.
  • Independently supports multimedia projects, however, will need support for bringing in new ideas or approach.
  • Partners with instructional designers, faculty, and media teams to develop and integrate multimedia solutions that support course goals and the overall learning experience.
  • Responsible for working with faculty and instructional designers to determine and contribute creative solutions for presenting course content.
  • Ensures multimedia assets meet accessibility standards and quality expectations while maintaining consistency with institutional guidelines.
  • Contributes to course development workflows by managing media assets, supporting production processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
