About The Position

This position involves representing assessment at Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings, assessing students consistently, and reporting results. The role ensures that state eligibility files for special education students are properly maintained and up-to-date, adhering to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations. Essential functions include complying with State Board of Education rules and Texas Education Agency assessment guidelines, serving as a liaison with community agencies, and conducting assessments within required timelines. The position requires compiling and writing accurate multidisciplinary assessment reports, presenting assessment findings to the ARD committee in understandable terms, and writing effective Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). The Educational Diagnostician must ensure annual IEP reviews and triennial re-evaluations are completed, coordinate ARD committee meetings, and inform campus personnel of assessment and ARD meeting dates. Maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of state eligibility folders and preparing necessary reports are also key responsibilities. The role includes supporting campus staff on Special Education policy updates and requires attendance at the work site to fulfill essential functions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Certification as an Educational Diagnostician
  • Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license
  • Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation

Responsibilities

  • Represent assessment at Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings.
  • Assess students in a consistent manner and report the results to the ARD committee.
  • Ensure that state eligibility files on special education students are properly maintained and kept up to date.
  • Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Comply with the rules of the State Board of Education regarding handicapped students and the assessment guidelines published by the Texas Education Agency.
  • Serve as a liaison with community agencies and resources to provide services to handicapped students.
  • Assess students in a manner consistent with federal, state and District guidelines within the timelines required.
  • Compile and write accurate and complete multidisciplinary assessment reports for new referrals, three-year re-evaluations and transfer students, as appropriate.
  • Present to the ARD committee, in terminology that can be readily understood by other committee members, the purpose and nature of the assessment as well as the results, conclusions and recommendations for classroom strategies and modifications.
  • Write an effective and appropriate Individual Educational Plan (IEP) based on comprehensive assessment data for new referrals, three-year re-evaluations and transfer students as specified by the ARD committee.
  • Ensure that the IEP of each identified handicapped student is reviewed at least annually and that each student is completely re-evaluated no less than once every three years.
  • Coordinate and conduct ARD committee meetings where assessment is to be discussed in accordance with governing state and federal laws and district policies and procedures.
  • Appraise appropriate campus and related service personnel of the assessment and/or ARD meeting dates for initial evaluations, transfer students, three-year re-evaluations and annual reviews.
  • Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of state eligibility folders; prepare local, state and federal reports as needed.
  • Support campus staff on updates in Special Education policies and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
