About The Position

The Educational Development Assistant (EDA) serves to lead the facilitation of activities both in the homes as well as in the Educational Enrichment Centers. This position provides educational enrichment activities specific to each resident’s capabilities, supervision and support for the Educational Enrichment Centers and the staff who attend with their residents. The EDA assists with instruction and group activities for residents and their support staff within the assigned Division during early mornings and lunchtime, as well as transportation to and from the Educational Enrichment Centers. This position is responsible for the day-to-day instruction and activities, schedule adherence, activity sanitation and rotation and other program organizational functions in their assigned area. The daily functions include initiating assigned activities, leading, monitoring, motivating participation and oversight of activities as well as modeling therapeutic relationship techniques for home staff while at the Educational Enrichment Centers. The Educational Development Assistant documents relevant information about participation, provides feedback to the Lead EDA, EPA, and Teachers to facilitate participation, enjoyment, progress and independence of the residents.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience working with students in an educational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with practical application of behavioral programming techniques.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, sensory processing issues, and behavioral challenges including those that are secondary to individuals with autism.

  • Ability to instruct, support participation and effectively model.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work together with residents and support staff.
  • Effectively communicate with a variety of service disciplines to share information of instructional outcomes and observed behaviors.
  • Successful completion of CPI and CPR.
