About The Position

The School Counselor provides ongoing academic, pragmatic, and social-emotional support to students with complex learning profiles throughout the school day, as determined by program needs. The counselor supports instruction inside and outside the classroom and, with supervision, designs and implements activities or classes as needed. In a child-centered, therapeutic school setting, the counselor collaborates with academic and clinical team members, attends meetings, completes student-related documentation, and prepares and maintains classrooms and the milieu.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
0–1 year of experience with children and/or adolescents preferred.

Responsibilities

Support teachers in implementing the curriculum.
Help teachers, clinicians, and administrators maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
Provide academic support, accommodations, and modifications as needed.
Facilitate students’ transitions between classes and throughout the building.
Supervise and implement coverage activities during staff absences.
Supervise students in all school locations as needed, including during arrival and dismissal.
Provide ongoing social-emotional support to students in the classroom and milieu.
Design and implement activities or classes with supervision, if needed.
Complete student-related documentation as necessary.
Prepare and maintain the milieu and classrooms for daily use.
Proctor testing sessions and provide IEP-mandated accommodations as required.
Model appropriate social cues and body language and provide social-pragmatic support as needed.
