About The Position

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) is seeking a collaborative, innovative, and learner-centered educational consultant who is passionate about advancing teaching excellence in higher education. The ideal candidate is an experienced consultant and facilitator who thrives on partnering with faculty, graduate students, and staff to enhance teaching practices, improve student learning, and promote an accessible learning environment. We are looking for someone who combines expertise in learning design, digital pedagogy, learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), accessibility, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with a curiosity for exploring and applying emerging technologies in higher education. Successful candidates will be skilled at translating complex concepts into practical strategies, developing and facilitating engaging professional development opportunities, and building meaningful relationships across various stakeholder groups. The preferred candidate demonstrates strong communication and project management skills, approaches challenges with creativity and critical thinking, and is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. They are committed to evidence-based practice, continuous improvement, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience in learning technologies and digital pedagogy with a minimum of two years of experience in one or more of the following: learning design, learning theory, faculty development, or workshop facilitation, alongside practical experience applying digital accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles within a digital learning environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in learning design, curriculum and instruction, learning technologies, higher education, or another related field.
  • Teaching experience in K-12 or higher education.
  • Foundational understanding of effective practices in leveraging learning management systems and associated learning technologies across various teaching modalities.
  • Proficiency in Canvas learning management system and associated third-party tools (Google, Zoom, Microsoft).
  • Experience with media creation and dissemination through Microsoft suite, and Adobe suite.
  • Ability to track metrics and apply assessment outcomes in a continuous improvement model.
  • Project management skills.
  • Understanding key performance indicators of student success and excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, pedagogical practices, and digital and online learning, including emerging technology and application of Gen AI in teaching and learning.
  • Strong grasp of effective practices and research in teaching and learning in higher education.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs and services, ability to think and act strategically.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal/written communication, listening, mediation, problem solving, decision making, and assertiveness.
  • Ability to facilitate groups of various backgrounds and difficult conversations.
  • Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong writing and editing capabilities.
  • Expertise in digital learning pedagogy, digital accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, emerging technologies, and Gen AI in teaching and learning, and tools across different modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, implements, and assesses educational development programs to meet the needs of the University with a particular emphasis on the integration and use of Gen AI and emerging technologies in TAMU's digital learning environment.
  • Analyzes program data and statistics for reporting, tracking progress, and adjusting programs.
  • Offers, facilitates, and delivers, in multiple formats, educational development opportunities and related events.
  • Ensures all programming meets pre-determined standards and that materials are standardized in their design and instructional delivery.
  • Creates resources and media with particular focus on teaching and learning, course design, accessibility, and AI-assisted pedagogy.
  • Advocates for the learning management system, generative AI in teaching and learning, and associated tools as well as digital pedagogy and accessibility to improve faculty and student success.
  • Provides consultations at the university, departmental, program, course, and individual level on teaching and learning topics/issues (i.e., syllabi review, teaching observations, student evaluation data, peer review processes, program and curriculum design, policy initiatives, etc.) providing feedback, support, and assistance.
  • Collaborates with colleagues on creating, revising, and implementing educational development tools.
  • Assists in developing strategies and policies regarding teaching and learning.
  • Models ethical consulting practices.
  • Mentors and supervises graduate and undergraduate students working in the Center.
  • Advocates for, leads, and facilitates change that aligns with the Center’s and university’s strategic focus areas.
  • Models best practices of educational development as demonstrated by peers internal and external to the university.
  • Promotes the practice of scholarly teaching and research-based practices for educational development.
  • Brokers relationships and partnerships with other units, internal and external to the university.
  • Contributes to the unit's strategic plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Conducts, contributes to, and disseminates research on national dialogues and publications related to educational development, teaching, and learning.
  • Assists faculty in establishing research designs to assess effectiveness of teaching; identifying means to share their educational scholarship; and co-authoring as the collaboration warrants.
  • Assists and collaborates with faculty and other educational developers on grants and research projects in discipline(s) and in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).
  • Facilitates learning communities related to teaching and learning.
  • Serves and participates in university task forces.
  • Develops, enhances, and implements annually, a personal professional development plan by assessing personal knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Participates in programs (workshops, conferences, etc.) and research to enhance job skills and to support a personal professional development plan that increases knowledge and expertise in the field of educational development as well as learning technologies and analytics.
  • Enhances facilitation skills via experience and observation.
