About The Position

Educational Coaches (ECs) are activity and pedagogy experts for GeoFORCE field academies. They ensure students are learning and work as a team with a lead summer coordinator and lead instructor. GeoFORCE is a youth education outreach program created by the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas to identify and develop future STEM leadership. The role involves substantial travel and participation in virtual training in May. Paid overtime of 40 or more hours during weeks with scheduled academies is expected. The position is expected to continue until August 31, 2027, and is based at Pickle Research Campus.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, STEM education, or a STEM field; relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
• Ability to commit to an entire field experience and a physically active schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• Participation in virtual training in May.
• Ability to meet applicable University of Texas Youth Protection Program, Human Resources, and GeoFORCE Texas policies, including child-safety training and the zero-tolerance no-alcohol policy throughout the field experience.
• Finalists must undergo a criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

• Lead classroom activities that review and reinforce material presented during each day’s field portion.
• Facilitate student learning by circulating among student groups in the field and during lectures, observing students, and asking the lead instructor to clarify confusing points.
• Assess and evaluate student learning by grading assignments and activities in the academy guidebook.
• Guide and mentor counselors as they assist with reviews and activities.
• Administer and grade the final project.
• Read the guidebook before the trip to become familiar with academy material.
• Perform other related functions as assigned.
