The Education Technician teaches educational programs in person in classrooms and in the park, as well as through distance-learning channels, primarily for school, youth, and other organized groups of students throughout the United States. The anticipated seasonal period is April through October 2027. Duties include helping develop educational materials, presenting or assisting with curriculum-based educational activities for applicable audiences in classroom and field settings, and assisting with educational partnerships with outside organizations. Work takes place indoors and outdoors, including in schools, community centers, park visitor centers, downtown urban spaces, on islands, and occasionally aboard ferries. Programs may be conducted in a wide range of weather and environmental conditions. Office work is typically sedentary and involves writing and computer use; field work may involve extended periods of walking, standing, or sitting. The incumbent will wear the National Park Service uniform. The position may require on-call work, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, or shift work. Other possible requirements include training and operation of a four-wheel-drive vehicle, use of a government or private motor vehicle for official duties, and training to obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority. Government quarters may be required; housing may be available but is not guaranteed. This is a seasonal temporary appointment, which may be not-to-exceed 1,560 hours depending on the park and program. Employment may end early due to funding, project needs, performance, or other considerations.
