About The Position

Under general supervision, performs work of moderate to high difficulty in coordinating and supervising staff in developing and managing educational goals and objectives and in development of educational programs for Henricus Historical Park and other Chesterfield County Historic sites. Provides professional museum input for the organization. Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of education support staff involved in designing and implementing educational programming. Develops and implements program research and guidelines for the development of programs and program materials that support the curriculum of the Virginia Department of Education Standards of Learning (SOLs) and of STEM materials. Coordinates administrative aspects of education programming to include staffing, revenues/expenses, monitoring, purchasing, and visitation record keeping. Designs and monitors budget requirements for the Education Department and monitors expenses and revenues. Serves as liaison to school administrators and community representatives for programming, teacher training workshops, and curriculum development. Supervises staff in program scheduling. Participates in planning, constructing, and delivering educational components of interpretive programs, activities, exhibits, and all museum studies concepts. Researches, writes, and administers grants for educational programs, school group scholarships, the education department, and assists with organizational grants. Perform other work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in formal and/or informal curriculum design, development, evaluation, or teaching.
  • Experience in historical interpretation or historical research.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of educational theories including learning theory, curriculum development, program evaluations, teaching techniques, and learning standards.
  • Working knowledge of general statistics and statistical analysis.
  • Working knowledge of museum education concepts and practices.
  • Ability to design and oversee the delivery of education programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to conduct historical research, writing, and editing.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages.
  • Ability to interact with and develop partnerships with other museums and educational organizations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Ability to formulate and manage budget.
  • Ability to manage reports.
