About The Position

The Education Specialist supports White River Health’s nursing workforce development through coordination of the Summer Nurse Extern Program, student clinical placements, and relationships with local nursing education programs. The position connects White River Health with nursing students, clinical instructors, and educational partners to support positive clinical learning experiences and strengthen the student-to-employee pipeline.

The role recruits, coordinates, supports, and tracks Nurse Extern Program participants; coordinates nursing students’ clinical experiences; collaborates with nursing programs and instructors on schedules and requirements; and supports recruitment efforts that encourage students to pursue employment with White River Health. The Education Specialist also supports the Education Department with assigned activities such as BLS support, HealthStream troubleshooting, new-hire education, and other educational initiatives. This is a grant-funded position reporting to the Education Manager.

Requirements

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Current BLS certification.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships with students, faculty, clinical instructors, staff, and community partners.
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, schedules, and deadlines.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn and troubleshoot electronic education systems.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
• Previous experience in nursing education, clinical education, student coordination, recruitment, workforce development, or a related healthcare education setting.
• Experience working with nursing students or nursing education programs.
• Experience coordinating clinical education or student placements.
• Experience with workforce development, recruitment, residency, or nurse extern programs.
• Familiarity with HealthStream, electronic health records, or other healthcare education platforms.
• Experience collaborating with colleges, universities, or other educational partners.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the Summer Nurse Extern Program from recruitment through completion, including schedules, orientation, clinical experiences, participant support, applications, selection, onboarding, and placements.
• Recruit and communicate with nursing students about Nurse Extern Program opportunities and serve as their consistent point of contact.
• Track participant attendance, participation, completion, evaluations, and required program documentation; collect feedback and assist with program evaluation and improvement.
• Support retention of successful externs and encourage their future employment with White River Health.
• Coordinate clinical experiences for nursing students, including schedules, unit placements, requirements, changes, onboarding, education, documentation, and access needs.
• Maintain working relationships with local nursing schools, faculty, clinical instructors, and program representatives; communicate promptly about scheduling and placement concerns.
• Provide students and instructors with information and resources for successful clinical experiences, and maintain accurate student records, schedules, and documentation.
• Support nursing workforce development and student-to-employee pipeline activities, including recruitment events, career fairs, school visits, student events, and Healthcare Camp.
• Support grant-related documentation, tracking, outcomes, and reporting for assigned programs.
• Provide BLS support and assist employees and new hires with HealthStream troubleshooting and required education.
• Support new-hire education, onboarding, Education Department events, programs, and other clinical education activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Manager.
