About The Position

The Education Specialist collects and develops educational materials and training programs to assist in the training of school personnel who work with infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents, and young adults with chronic illnesses and their families. Coordinates program cases assigned by maintaining contact with local and state agencies and parents to ensure that the instructional, developmental and related services are being provided in the appropriate school setting. Assists the state and parish educational administrators in determining the needs of assigned population and their families develop and implement relevant training programs. Implements training programs as requested to prepare administrators, faculty, staff, and student body to support students with complex health needs. Assists in preparing all grant records to submit to the funding agency by maintaining and compiling accurate records and data.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development or a related field.
  • Clinical knowledge.
  • Interpersonal communications.
  • Coordination of services.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, computer and computer program skills.
  • Coordination of events.
  • Ability to travel to local communities to provide direct support when needed.
  • Knowledge of LA Schools.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable in the education and development of children with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses.
  • Knowledgeable about current state and federal legislation and policies pertaining to educational services available for children ages birth through 21.
  • Special Education experience.
  • Master's Degree in Education, Child Development or a related field.
